Inclusion at Carr Lane.

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do and is woven through every classroom, every lesson and every part of daily life in our school community, reflecting our shared vision – “We dream big; we believe we can; we achieve excellence.” We are committed to developing a deep understanding of each pupil’s strengths and needs, identifying barriers early and providing a nurturing, high-quality learning environment where every child is valued as a unique individual. Through quality first teaching and thoughtful adaptations, we remove barriers to learning so all children can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Our approach is firmly needs-led and inclusive, with staff working collaboratively to monitor progress, respond swiftly to emerging needs and maintain consistently high expectations for all. Strong relationships, clear routines and a culture of kindness, patience and respect are part of everyday life at Carr Lane, supporting children to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning. As an outward-looking school, we work closely in partnership with parents, carers, other schools and a wide range of external professionals to continually strengthen our provision, because we believe that genuine collaboration is key to securing the very best outcomes for every child.

Meet the Inclusion Team

Inclusion is a whole-school leadership priority, driven by the belief that every child should experience belonging, stability and ambitious learning every day. Senior leaders, the SENCo, pastoral team and specialist staff work in close partnership to remove barriers to learning, ensuring support is timely, coordinated and needs-led. Through high-quality adaptive teaching, strong pastoral systems and the specialist expertise of The Den Enhanced Resource Provision, the school provides a continuum of support that enables pupils with SEND to thrive academically, socially and emotionally alongside their peers. This shared responsibility for inclusion ensures that every pupil is known, valued and supported to achieve independence, confidence and long-term success.

The Den (Enhanced Resource Provision)

The Den is our specialist Enhanced Resource Provision, created to support pupils with significant communication and interaction needs within a calm, nurturing and highly structured environment that places wellbeing, learning and independence at its heart. Rooted in our whole-school vision – “We dream big; we believe we can; we achieve excellence” – The Den focuses on developing each child’s communication, emotional regulation, confidence and essential life skills alongside learning, so they can function as independently as possible both in school and in everyday life beyond the classroom.
We take a highly personalised, needs-led approach, developing a deep understanding of each pupil’s strengths and needs in order to identify barriers early and provide the right support at the right time. Through consistent routines, strong relationships, specialist strategies and close partnership with families and external professionals, we remove barriers, build on success and celebrate every step of progress. Pupils in The Den are fully included in the life of Carr Lane, taking part in whole-school experiences, celebrations, learning opportunities and social times wherever appropriate, so they feel a true sense of belonging and connection to their peers. Our aim is for every child to feel safe, valued and empowered to thrive as a confident member of our wider school community.
