Information About Our Remote Education Provision
At Willerby Carr Lane Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that pupils can continue their education if they are unable to attend school but are well enough to learn. Our remote education offer is designed to provide continuity, maintain progress, and help pupils return to the classroom confidently and with minimal gaps in learning.
When remote education is provided
Remote education is provided for pupils who are absent from school and unable to attend in person, but who are well enough to complete work. This may be due to short-term illness, exclusion, or other individual circumstances agreed with the school.
Remote education is intended to support continuity of learning and does not replace the importance of regular school attendance.
How quickly learning will be available
We aim to provide access to remote learning as soon as possible, typically from the first or second day of absence. This ensures pupils can continue learning alongside their classmates and remain connected to the curriculum.
How pupils access remote learning
We use Google Classroom as our main platform for remote education. Each pupil has a secure login which gives them access to the work set by their teacher.
Through this platform, pupils can:
-
View lessons and learning activities
-
Access teaching materials and explanations
-
Complete and submit work
-
Receive feedback from their teacher
Where needed, families can contact the school for support with logging in or accessing resources.
What pupils can expect to learn
The work set for pupils learning at home will follow the same curriculum as the learning taking place in school, wherever possible. Teachers will provide activities that support progress in English, mathematics and the wider curriculum, in line with the class’s current learning.
The amount of work set will be appropriate to the age and stage of the child and will allow them to continue developing knowledge and skills at home.
Feedback and assessment
Teachers will review work submitted by pupils and provide feedback through Google Classroom. This may include written comments, guidance to support improvement, or acknowledgement of completed work.
Providing regular feedback helps pupils understand how they are progressing and supports them to stay motivated and engaged with their learning.
Supporting engagement
We recognise that learning from home can sometimes present challenges. Staff monitor engagement and may contact families to offer support if a pupil is finding it difficult to access or complete work. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and carers to help children maintain routines and continue learning.
Support for pupils with additional needs
We understand that some pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, may require adapted work or additional support. Where appropriate, teachers will adjust activities to ensure they remain accessible and manageable.
Staff will work with families to provide guidance and ensure that remote learning remains supportive and achievable for each child.
Access to technology
If families experience difficulties accessing remote education due to technology or connectivity issues, we encourage them to contact the school. We will work with parents and carers to help find solutions so that pupils can continue learning at home.
Our aim
Our aim is to ensure that any pupil who cannot attend school temporarily is still able to access high-quality learning, remain connected to their class, and return to school ready to continue their education with confidence.
